Projet: Video Presentation
Cause Team: Adrian Meredith, Frédéric Goncerut
Client: EPFL+ECAL Lab et ALICE Studio EPFL
The Porte des Savoirs (lit. Gate of Knowledge) mandate concerned the creation of a video documenting a project developed by the EPFL+ECAL Lab together with epfl’s ALICE studio, the University of Lausanne (UNIL) and the CHUV, at the service of the la Vaudoise insurance company.
To mark the insurance company’s opening of a new agency in Epalinges, north of Lausanne, just a few steps away from M2’s (Lausanne’s north-south metro Line) final station, Croisettes, la Vaudoise commissioned Lausanne’s polytechnic & arts schools laboratory to build a conceptual installation based on interactive immersion, a Gate of Knowledge to symbolize its commitment to innovation, architecture and culture throughout it’s region.
“The new agency’s location was crucial to the project’s conception: situated at the start of a metro line leading to the university institutions, as well as at the heart of the Biopôle, a vast complex linked to health and development of new technologies. Meanwhile an insurer’s mission is not only the backing of a risk, but also the task of accompanying through life’s decisions, helping to prevent & to anticipate. He must imperatively be in touch with the heart of the knowledges produced by his society and contribute to the sharing of such discoveries.”
The Porte des Savoirs installation spreads across over 250 square feet embedded by more than 18’000 LED lights reflected by a system of screens and mirrors, illuminating the scrolling of random informations related to the EPFL, the University of Lausanne, the CHUV and the ECAL’s activities, all of which is also visible from the outside thanks to the building’s transparency.
Interaction tablets are available to passersby allowing them to access more thorough content related to these informations and to interact with the insurance company’s services.
